Difficult Nurses in Clinical: How To Deal!

I recently finished my OB clinical rotation. I can honestly say it was the one of the best clinical experience I have had and that a large part of this was because I was blessed to work with some amazing nurses! These nurses were willing and happy to teach, and treated my classmates and me with respect. I’m going to be honest: not every clinical experience will go this way (unless you get extremely lucky.) I have dealt with nurses who literally shut the door in my face when I try to follow them in a room! Obviously, this does not make for the best clinical experience. However, I have learned how to deal with these situations. We can’t change their attitudes, but we can learn to deal!Read More

Summer Break

Hello! I am officially on summer break! I haven’t had a summer break since I started school three years ago. Even though it is “only” a six week break, not the whole summer, it seems a little surreal! I have no homework, clinical, tests, lecture, or skills lab to prepare for! However, I do plan to make sure I keep on track and work to be prepared for the start of fall semester. Today I’m talking about things to do to balance summer fun, work, and preparing to return to school in the fall.Read More

OB Clinical Rotation

I have officially finished my OB clinical rotation! This was one of my favorite rotations. The nurses were very welcoming and accepting of students, and willing to help us learn. I also find all things OB to be so interesting and I find a lot of enjoyment in working with moms and babies. For this rotation I went to three different units in the hospital as well as an outpatient clinic, and each came with it’s own unique experience! I included a little information on my experience on each unit, as well as things to review before you go to this unit yourself. Read More

Sun Safety 101

Summer is officially in full swing! Everyone is outside for pool and beach days, camping, cookouts, festivals, and working in the yard! It is definitely one of my favorite times of year. I love to get outside and enjoy the sunshine. 4th of July is this weekend, and I am sure a lot of people have some fun outdoor plans! With holidays and summer here, I wanted to take a few minutes to discuss sun safety. No matter the color of your skin, hair, eyes, or how invisible to the sun you believe you are, everyone can burn and have negative effects from the sun. Read More
