Student Nurse Day 2016

Student Nurse Day was actually Sunday May 8, but I couldn’t let Nurses Week 2016 go by without sending some love to all my fellow nursing students! I currently wear both hats, nurse (LPN) and nursing student (RN). It keeps me busy and leaves me pretty much consumed with all things nursing, but I love it!

Nursing School is not for the weak. It is years of demanding classes, long clinical days, hours of homework and studying. We make hundreds of flashcard, write pages of notes, and listen to hours of lecture. We give up sleep, time with family, vacations, and a social life to fulfill our dream of becoming nurses. Every nurse I talk to says the same thing, “nursing school was one of the hardest things I have ever done!” And I totally agree with them!

As nursing students, we are the future of the profession. When times get tough, and you feel like your at your breaking point, remember: we are going to have people’s lives in our hands! We will be the ones who are with them for 12 straight hours. We will be in charge of noticing those subtle changes, and starting the life saving intervention. We will be the ones to show the patients and families compassion and love when they need it most. When a doctor explains things in a way they can’t understand, we will be there to help! Nursing school is hard because nursing is hard! It is a serious profession and we need to do our best to prepare now, before we are on the floor with lives in our hands!
All that being said, YOU CAN DO THIS! Take a deep breath, phone a friend, go for a walk, watch a silly TV show, do whatever you need to do to relax and recenter, then get back to the books! Nursing School is not forever, there is an end whether we can see it or not. It will pass. And at the end, your will be a NURSE! How amazing is that!? Good luck to everyone on the rest of your programs, we can do this!

LPN Pinning 2012

I also want to say CONGRATULATIONS to all the new graduate nurses out there! What an AMAZING accomplishment it is to be pinned as a nurse and to receive your degree! I wish all of you the best of luck on your NCLEX and in your new job hunt, I know you will rock it!

Happy Nurses Week to all the future nurses!
