Another class in nursing school is coming to an end, it is hard to believe! This class has literally flew by! It has been faster than any other class I have had so far. I don’t know that I ever see myself working in Peds, but I enjoyed the class and clinical and found it to be a lot of fun. Here is a quick wrap up of my experience in Pediatric Nursing.Read More

Success in Clinical

Prepare the night Before

I feel this is one of the most important things you can do! If you have to be at the hospital at 0630 for clinicals, you are going to be getting up early. The last thing you want is to be trying to find a pair of white socks at 0500! The night before, I lay out my full clinical uniform including socks and shoes. I pack my bag and make sure I have all my supplies. Also, I pack my lunch if needed, have a water bottle ready to go, and have something light for breakfast prepped. I even have my coffee pot ready so all I have to do is turn it on. Having everything ready to go will make for a much smoother and less stressful morning!Read More

Hey Hey! I hope you all are doing well! Life is crazy and busy right now! I started Pediatric Nursing last week (6 months until graduation!), have been working when shifts are open, plus Bradley and I are working on a few “projects” on the weekends. I have some more nursey posts in the works, but I decided to write a quick hodgepodge post on the happenings of my life and some recent thoughts!Read More

Tips for Surviving Nursing School

The start of nursing school is filled with so many different emotions: excitement, apprehension, nervousness, anxiety. I remember feeling so overwhelmed when I first started, and wondering how I was ever going to accomplish everything. To be honest, I still feel this way at the beginning of every class. However, it can be done, and you will be successful! I titled this post 7 tips for starting nursing school, but I know this information can be beneficial at any point in the program.Read More

Compression Socks Review

I have been talking about trying compression socks for a long time now, but have never got around to buying any. A few weeks ago my sweet parents gifted me two pairs of super cute compression socks and I decided to try them out last week. I worked Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday twelve (more like thirteen) hour shifts. I was busy all three days and spent a majority of my time on my feet. Today I’m writing a short review of my first experience with compression socks. (This is not paid, sponsored, or anything like that. I am just sharing my experience!)Read More

“Overcoming Shyness” NurseTogether.com Article

NurseTogether.com Contributing Author

A couple months ago, I received an email from an editor at NurseTogether.com, an online community for nurses and nursing students, saying she had looked at my blog and would like me to be a contributing author for their website. I immediately thought, “What!? Me!? No way!” I have my blog, but sending an article for someone else to decide if it should be published sounded terrifying!

For the next few weeks, I kept rereading the email and began to consider the opportunity. I looked at the website, and found it was an awesome community of nurses and students that had great information available! I figured there could be no harm in getting more information, so I sent the editor an email. After much discussion, my first article has officially been published! I am so excited to be a part of this awesome community and to officially be an Inner Circle Member!Read More

Preparation: The key to a good work week!

Time at the pool, shopping at the mall, dates nights, lunch out with friends, long walks with my dog, time with family… Who doesn’t enjoy their days off!? One of the many reasons why I love being a nurse is the twelve hour shift. I loved having my four days off before I started nursing school, but twelve plus hours is a looooonnnggg time to be at work some days. Gearing up for a week of twelve hour shifts can leave you less than thrilled! Over the past 3.5 years I have learned the key to having a good work week: preparation!

Difficult Nurses in Clinical: How To Deal!

I recently finished my OB clinical rotation. I can honestly say it was the one of the best clinical experience I have had and that a large part of this was because I was blessed to work with some amazing nurses! These nurses were willing and happy to teach, and treated my classmates and me with respect. I’m going to be honest: not every clinical experience will go this way (unless you get extremely lucky.) I have dealt with nurses who literally shut the door in my face when I try to follow them in a room! Obviously, this does not make for the best clinical experience. However, I have learned how to deal with these situations. We can’t change their attitudes, but we can learn to deal!Read More
